Zebra Bluetooth® Beacons1 utilize Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology, working seamlessly with both off-the-shelf Android/iOS devices and customized equipment to establish the basis for straightforwardly deployed proximity-based location solutions.Bluetooth-based Location CapabilitiesToday’s market offers numerous location technologies, but Bluetooth-based location technology stands out due to its ease of integration and low-cost setup with mobile applications or server-based systems. This active RFID technology supports quick installation in various complex environments such as warehouses, factories, and healthcare facilities. Zebra Bluetooth Beacons come in myriad physical and digital forms, providing presence and proximity-based location data that supports solutions like Zebra MotionWorks. When your business requires basic location data (up to a zone or room precision), Bluetooth proves to be a cost-effective and ideal choice. The minimal power requirements of Bluetooth® low energy technology drive battery-powered devices, fostering innovative solutions across sectors including manufacturing, transport, logistics, healthcare, and retail. Edge-derived location data offers essential insights into operational performance. These battery-powered beacons can function for multiple years at an attractive cost, making the investment particularly worthwhile. Zebra’s beacon-based location solutions often encompass a mix of static and portable beacons along with application systems that interpret and respond to beacon signals. Such systems can work as stand-alone applications or in harmony with Zebra MotionWorks systems. The devices that pick up the beacon signals can be any Android or iOS mobile device, smartphone, or custom hardware fitted with Bluetooth® low energy radios and operable with the Zebra SDK or a third-party app. For complete solutions like Zebra MotionWorks, it's also necessary for the application to interact with analytics software via Wi-Fi, LTE, 3G, etc.
Compatible with Zebra MotionWorks and Other Location Solutions
Zebra MotionWorks™ solutions enable businesses to capture automated data, providing actionable insights and necessary solutions pertaining to the location, condition, and status of enterprise-tagged assets. These solutions use hardware to gather data (leveraging Zebra’s extensive range of sensing, tagging, and mobile technologies, including widely-used third-party technologies) and have executed some of the largest and most successful automated asset tracking and management implementations globally. Although Zebra MotionWorks is optimized for Zebra Bluetooth Beacons, these beacons also support third-party systems conforming to the Bluetooth® low energy standards and legacy Mpact server-based solutions.
Tools for Development and Configuration
Zebra provides an SDK that aids customers and partners in developing location solutions that incorporate Zebra Bluetooth Beacons and facilitates the integration of these beacons with location features on iOS, Android devices, and Zebra’s rugged mobile computing products. The SDK includes libraries, drivers, and APIs necessary for custom application development. Moreover, Zebra offers a configuration toolbox app that simplifies the process of staging and configuring beacons, enabling the adjustment of transmission power, interval, and other operational parameters. Configuration and firmware updates can be performed wirelessly, eliminating the need for direct connections with the beacons.
